Raising bilingual children is an exciting and complex experience. When I started raising my firstborn, I quickly realized that bilingualism develops in an individualized and unique way for each child and family.
As I immersed myself in the bilingual parenting world, I started noticing that what I learned in graduate school - bilingualism does not cause delays - was not the general rule embraced by many parents and professionals. Due to myths and misconceptions about bilingual language development, many parents and professionals approach bilingualism with hesitation, fear and sometimes even dismissal.
Laleo’s parent support and advocacy focuses on providing evidence-based facts about typical bilingual language development. We hope that parents feel confident and at peace knowing what to expect regarding language development when raising a bilingual child.
