Bilingual Speech & Language Services

Professional Background

Hi! I’m Claudia Serrano Johnson, the founder and owner of Laleo Therapy. I was born and raised in Colombia, South America, then moved to the United States as a pre-teen where I began my personal journey with bilingualism and multiculturalism.

I attended the University of Virginia (UVA) where I took courses spanning across many disciplines including “Childhood Development,” “Childhood Psychology,” “Spanish Speech Sounds and Phonology,” “Language Development,” among many others. Those courses crafted my unique Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders and Spanish Linguistics. I then obtained my Master of Science as Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist at Texas Christian University (TCU). Graduate school laid a firm foundation for what is now Laleo Therapyl! I am eternally grateful for the explicit training and mentoring on topics related to bilingual language development and disorders that I received during my time there.

As a professional, I have always been passionate for providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to bilingual children. I specialize in “differential diagnostic evaluations” where I try to help answer the following question: “Are the child’s speech and language skills typical of bilingual language development or are their skills indicative of a speech-language delay or disorder?” My areas of specialty for treatment include: Language Delays, Developmental Language Disorders, Articulation & Phonological Disorders, and Stuttering.
